RAINFOREST ASSESSMENT FIELD DAY

When: ANZAC DAY: Wednesday 25th of April

Where: Albatross Road Lakes Entrance

On a beautifully warm and calm day, 25 people gathered to learn how to assess EVC's and plan management to enhance Biodiversity values of a property and combat threats. These photos and comments are a very personal report of what I learned from the day.

Thanks to Robyn Edwards and Bill Peel and all the participants for sharing their knowledge.

9.10-9.15 Welcome [Jane Greacen] Jane introduced this, the first of the EGCMN workshops.

Briefing: maps, safety, what is happening, why and when [Robyn Edwards].

Threats (15 minutes)

  • What are they
  • Where do they occur

Mapping (15 minutes) [Bill Peel ]

  • Ecological vegetation classes what they are and where they occur
  • Vegetation mapping

  • Aerial photo interpretation
  • Plant identification
  • Rare or threatened plants

Bill talked us through looking at the photo and relating that to what we can see on the ground, interpreting colour and size in relation to tree maturity and cover.
